Morgan Community College

Early Childhood Education Program Mission Statement

The Early Childhood Education Program at Morgan Community College emphasizes the professional preparation of students for a wide range of careers with young children (ages birth to eight) and families within diverse community contexts such as home childcare, Head Start, preschools, early elementary classrooms, and community service organizations.

Self-Study Reflections:
  • The project provided an opportunity to utilize funding, professional development opportunities, and a cohort approach to assessing courses and key assessments to improve the ECE program on campus and at the centers, to develop community partnerships, and to offer students options in addition to on-line and occasional in-class courses.
  • An advisory committee of members from various ECE entities in Morgan County was established and engaged throughout the project.  Community needs assessment surveys were also conducted.  Feedback from all of these sources contributed to the creation of a stronger ECE program at MCC.
  • The team visitation and follow-up report motivated increased administrative interest in the program and its ongoing improvement.  The program is viewed as a credible program deserving additional attention and the investment of multiple resources.
