How can early childhood education programs sustain quality? How do program leaders build effective teams? Program administrators from 17 agencies participating in the Denver School Readiness Reflective Leadership initiative met monthly with a Clayton Early Learning trainer to explore these and other leadership topics and to hone their skills.
A Clayton Early Learning coach worked monthly with teachers in five classrooms at Little Giants Learning Center in Adams County to create more effective lesson plans for the 65 children enrolled in this program. As teachers improved their planning and the classroom environment, children spent more time in meaningful learning activities.
More than 500 of these research participants were a part of our evaluation of the Denver Preschool Program. This evaluation study has demonstrated that the vast majority of children leave DPP academically and socio-emotionally ready for kindergarten. These children also go on to demonstrate strong reading skills at the end of kindergarten.
More than 40 parents and caregivers in Clayton’s Play and Learn program participated in parent meetings and twice-weekly guided play sessions with their children birth to 4. Participants learned appropriate expectations for their children at different stages and how to take an active role in their children’s learning through simple home activities such as singing, reading and drawing together.
