Clayton Early Learning Announces Hire of New CFO
DENVER - Feb. 12 - Clayton Early Learning, a leader in early childhood education, research and training, is thrilled to announce the hire of a highly accomplished accounting professional to the position of chief financial officer.
Joining the Clayton Early Learning team late last year was Sonya Marques-Correia. Sonya has more than 10 years of experience in nonprofit accounting and most recently held the position of corporate controller for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) in Boston. Her other nonprofit experience includes accounting work for the MSPCA's sister organization, American Fondouk in Morocco, which provides free veterinary care to working animals.
"I am truly excited about working here at Clayton," Sonya says. "The organization has such a wonderful mission and talented folks who care so much about early childhood education. It's an honor to be part of that."
Prior to joining the nonprofit world, Sonya worked in property management, wealth management accounting and in manufacturing.
She earned a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Massachusetts, and in 2006, an MBA with a focus in accounting from Bryant University in Rhode Island. Education has always been very important to Sonya and she continues to expand her education in her field through attending conferences and seminars through the American Institute of CPAs and other local accounting organizations.
"After a nationwide search for the most suitable candidate for CFO, we are extremely pleased to have found Sonya," says Clayton Early Learning President and CEO Charlotte Brantley. "She has the background and expertise that are ideal for overseeing the finances of a dynamic nonprofit such as ours. Clayton Early Learning is in extremely capable hands with Sonya."
Sonya lives in Highlands Ranch with her husband, Don, and their two cats and one dog. Their many interests include hiking, skiing and cooking.
