Clayton Early Learning Institute improves young children's care and education in programs by connecting research to practice. We offer training, education, coaching and research and evaluation services in Denver and across Colorado. The Institute works with hundreds of early childhood professionals who in turn reach thousands of young children every day. Through innovative partnerships, the Institute seeks to better understand the links between program quality and teacher preparation in order to improve outcomes for children and families. Partners include community early childhood programs, higher education, public service media, other researchers, public schools, advocacy organizations, and federal/state and private funders.
In 2008, 41% of DPS parents reported that their children spoke a language other than English at home. Supporting each child to successfully develop English language skills while preserving and strengthening their home language is a critical feature of effective practice.
Every day, over 230,000 of Colorado's children need early care and education. A new three year project - in partnership with Colorado Community Colleges and the Institute - will lead to better-trained teachers and greater success in school and in life for these children.
Have a child who will soon be starting kindergarten? The Clayton Early Learning Institute knows that this can be both an exciting and a worrisome time for you and your child. Check out this DVD to help you prepare for this big event.
